FORUM RULES
We want the public forums to be a safe, fun place to post your opinions, views and thoughts on current events. There are some things that do not be need to be discussed here in the public forums. Below are the topics that will not be tollerated in these forums.
- Racial and Sexist comments
Please keep them to yourself. They will not be tolerated here and may get you banned right away!
- Religious & Political Issues
There is no place for religion or politics in these forum. If you wish to discuss politics and/or religion, please go visit a religious/political science forum and post your views there.
On top of those topics, we will also no longer tollerate the following..
1) Changing spelling to avoid the language filter. NO SWEARING ALLOWED! Our ladder is meant for an audience of +13 years of age.
2) Flaming Threads
3) Flaming/starting fights
4) Thread crapping (if you dont like the topic of the thread, don't post).
5) Thread hi-jacking (if you want to change the subject, start a new thread)
6) Cheat Accusations, slander, files, or discussions that should be between you and an admin.
Your first warning will be having your post deleted. If you continue, then you will be banned from the public forums.
Posting Guidelines
* Respect other posters.
Refrain from flaming or baiting. If you disagree with someone present your opinion and reasons; simply belittling someone who has an opposing point of view is not welcome here. This also applies to PM's.
We will not tolerate abuse or harrassment of any members in any way for any reason.
* Respect the owner of intellectual property.
If you quote a source, give full credit to that source. If the source is online, provide a link. Always give credit by:
1. Naming the source
2. Naming the author (if known)
3. Naming the publisher or site.
Feel free to quote material, just make sure you give credit and refrain from copying an entire article. The latter is best served by a link.
* Remain on topic.
While we feel that spam is impossible to eliminate, please try to remain on topic when you post. "On-topic spam" will be allowed to a degree. We will post requests to return to the original topic if spam threatens to overrun a thread.
Any post that simply says "I agree" (or words to that effect) will be deleted. If you want to state your agreement with someone's idea, that's fine, but explain how and/or why you agree with it.
* No excessive profanity.
The occasional 'damn' or 'damnit' or 'hell' is OK, but if you go out of your way to get around our word censors, you will be be warned. Repeat offenders will be suspended or banned.
* Do not repost deleted material.
The same applies to locked material. Deleted posts and threads remain with a deletion notice in place. Use your discretion in this case; if something was deleted because of abuse, you can post the same thing without the abuse. However, simply repeating something that was deleted or locked is not acceptable.
* Reporting posts.
If you have any concerns about the content of a post, send a PM to a Moderator or Administrator. Preferably, report the post using the report feature, which will automatically send a report to everyone authorised to deal with it. Do not respond to the post or thread in question yourself. If we are forced to deal with a thread that has degenerated into a flame war we will deal with all participants equally. We don't care who started it. If you participate, you will be held equally responsible.
* Advertising.
Ask us before posting. In many cases you may find that we will post a link on the main site news that will serve your purposes far better than a link in the forums.
* Warez, hacking, other illegal material.
Absolutely no links to warez sites or hacking sites. We'd rather you didn't even discuss warez/hacks on the forums at all. Not only do we not approve of piracy or hacks designed to gain an unfair advantage, we take a hard-line stance on this issue.
* Use common sense.
If you don't think something will be acceptable, do not post it. Just because it's not listed here doesn't make it okay.
* Use the default colour wherever possible.
Spamming colours in your posts can be rather distracting and it more commonly used by our mods to denote importance and source for administrative posts.
Ignorance of these rules is no excuse for failing to abide by them.
If you have any concerns with a decision made by a Moderator, you should do the following:
1. Send a PM to that Mod detailing the reasons why. That Mod will either confirm their decision and explain to you the reasons why, or reverse their decision based on your appeal. If the decision is reversed, no further correspondence is required. Do NOT continue sending PM's to the Mod unless that Mod directs otherwise.
2. If you still have concerns, tough luck. We obviously disagree with you. Do NOT take your concerns to the forums in an attempt to have the decision overturned that way.
"Rape" as a gaming term:
Please do not use that term in a gaming context on this forum. Rape is a serious crime, that causes severe mental (and often physical) trauma to the victims. Using it as a gaming term totally devalues the seriousness of the crime. Not to mention that some people may find its use in a gaming context offensive or distressing (for much the same reasons I have already mentioned).
We are NOT banning the use of the word "rape" on these forums. This request applies solely to the use of the word rape within gaming slang such as "we just totally raped them!" The word "raped" in this instance can easily be replaced with, for example, "destroyed."
You may report any post or PM any Moderator or Administrator regarding a user who does not adhere to these or other guidelines.
* All Images
Do not use images of a pornographic or degrading nature as avatars, signature images, or in posts. As a basic guide on what we consider degrading: if you are posting it simply to get a laugh at the expense of someone else (eg if they are extremely fat, or extremely dorky etc), don't.
This rule applies to all images used, and works in concert with the additional restrictions below.
* Avatars
Avatars uploaded to the forum are limited to 100x100 and 100kb in size. This allows for simple animated .gif files.
* Signature Images
Please keep them to a reasonable size.
As a basic guide, width should not cause a horizontal scrollbar to appear in 800x600 resolution, and height of your entire signature block (image and any text) should not be more than the equivalent of 8-10 lines of text. Rough estimate of an appropriate image size is 550 (or less) width by 150 (or less) height. That height is an absolute maximum, however, and the height limit is reduced by 10 pixels for each line of text in your sig (so if you have 4 lines of text the sig image limit is 110 pixels high). Blank lines count as a line of text.
Keep in mind that sig images that are very large cause slow load times for dialup users and can make short posts look ridiculous.
Long sig blocks also take up large amounts of space on screen, so we may revise the guidelines here in future if large numbers of users include sig images.
* Embedded Images
When posting images from other sites, please do NOT embed them in your post. Use a link to the site that hosts the image. This affords that site proper credit for having the image. Most large sites (including TaG) pay for their bandwidth and leaching off other sites' bandwidth is NOT something we approve of, as we consider it to be no better than theft.
Do not post any images that are large enough to cause a horizontal scroll bar to appear on the forums. Use the sig image width guideline if in doubt (550 pixels wide). We also request that you limit the number of images per post. If one or two images will suffice, do not post ten. |
